BADGEWEARER – F.T.Q. - (Gruff Wit Records-UK-1991)

Tony Kennedy born in Glasgow in 1966, is the founding and now only remaining member of the jazz punk band BADGEWEARER championed by John Peel among others. Earning critical acclaim from many quarters including single of the week in the Melody Maker and numerous other international accolates. He turned down Jelo Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label to remain with independent Glasgow label Gruf Witt, releasing over a ten year period: 4 Lp’s and 6 7” singles. In the meantime teaming up with Pakito Bolino and Caroline Sury as part of the Marseille art collective Le derniere Crie to form the art noise phenomenon MUG, who performed at festival Mimi as well as being invited to record a Peel session. His last performance was a live improvisation with legendary CAN singer Damo Suzuki in Edinburgh. Badgewearer then became a solo project, involving collaborations with dancers, poets and writers. He currently plays one of the three basses with the new Mexico based Albuquerque band Tiny Americans, with former members of 3 Mile Pilot and Truman’s Water, specializing in live film soundtracks. Which has led to his most recent collaboration with the Rotterdam based video artist Marit Shalem.(from his official webpage)     click me

WHIRLING PIG DERVISH-Full Feather Lovesuit-(Gruff Wit Records-UK-1991)

Great 7 inch by this Scottish post-hardcore band from Glasgow!
I have already written about them when I posted their cassette Out Of Tune,Out Of Time... released in 1991  just as this vinyl.
Expect the same dose of weird and original sounds, fragmented guitar riffs, broken rhythms, screamed vocals and more rather bizarre passages.
A wonderful 7inch for people into difficult Post-Hardcore Punk to digest.
It comes with a little info-sheet with lyrics, all the relevant scans included here.
Enjoy it.

DAWSON-Cheese Market-(Gruff Wit Records/ The Making Of Americans-UK/USA-1994)

This is an enormous cd including the first 2 albums: "Barf Market : You're Ontae Plums" and  " How To Follow So That Others Will Willingly Lead (Oh My Godley And Creme Cheese)" by this amazing Glasgow based band active in the early 90s.
Compared to names such as Butthole Surfers and Minutemen, Dawson throws in their songs sheer violence and electric energy mixing some avant-guard fast chaotic guitars riffs, math rhythms, weird vocals and experimental jingles that make their music original and difficult to categorize.
Coming out from the very lively Noize Post Hardcore punk scene from the end of last century, they shared common interests and sweats with Stretchheads, Whirling Pig Dervish and  Archbishop Kebab, all very original bands hailing from Scotland.
An FB page about them is here, where you can see old flyers and pics, a new band formed by the 3rd era Dawson musicians is called Sumshapes and their Bandcamp page is here  , you can listen/buy their album Cabin Biscuits released June 30, 2017.
This is another great gift as FLAC files coming from my friend Dante, my gratitude to him for his help and support.
Enjoy it.
