Travelling/Viagens (Mail Art Project and Exhibition-Portugal + Global Networking-2002)

 Amazing Mail Art documentation for the project "Travelling/Viagens" promoted by the Portuguese Organization For The Celebral Palsy. It came out as a CDr including all the artworks received for this project/exhibition. It is an amazing documentation, and I am attaching some excerpts from their introduction. The spirit of mail art is the total freedom.

Freedom of creation,ideas,concepts,limits,materials, techniques. Therefore,in substance of mail art is doesn`t have juries,it doesn`t have prizes r any type of classifications. At time,it is suggested to mail artists a subject,as it is the case. But given such freedom,all the proposals are respected and admitted. Also it was and it is the case.

The heading considered to the mail artists “Travelling/Viagens” was chose to try to translate the subject and the spirit of EUROLINE project. EUROLINE is an European Project supported for the Program Culture 2000 of The European Commission,with nine transnational partners,whose primary aim is toe create a line of cultural communication between as many countries and as wide a range of people as possible,including with social disadvantage and deficiency to work creatively in a series of challenging and exciting artists activities and events.

 

In result of all the invitations sent, it had answers coming from the 5 continents, on the part of 409 artists, representing 33 nationalities, in a total of 531 displayed works. In this genre of artists expression, the exhibition surely represents one of the carried through greaters already in Portugal, presented in the Museu Do Carro Electrico for the last three weeks of October 2002.

The event was organised by the Associacao Portuguese de Paralisa Cerebral(APPC) in Porto, who have previous experience in this form of art, in full connection with the EUROLINE partnership.

 

Obscene TapeZine N6 -(Self Released - Italy -1996)

 Obscene TapeZine N6 is a huge project including a tape of radio shows from Radio Kaos and Pirate Radio Fuck International + Obscene zine + Punk Container + a big poster. I am going to describe briefly the 4 items contained in a big plastic bag.

The Tape:All the stuff contained in the tapezine comes from the shows on Radio Kaos and Pirate Radio Belin Fuck International. The stuff on the tapezine is going to be divided into two different projects; The side A contains the mix of demo tapes delivered to Obscene zine-no selection was made, different music styles, to show and transmit sounds, noises and lyrics contained into independent cassette releases...
The B side offers a panoramic view of the punk scene. The DIY and self-management of the 80s. This idea was born from the need to analyse the development of the punk movement in Italy.To unveil the influences that created it, to show this music/ideas and also to dig into it. On the hunt of what is never been published so far...

Obscene zine n6 , this contained visual poetry, mail art, flyers, comics and articles-somehow a bit messy but visually striking, here the introduction to this issue.

Punk Container :Punk Container was an experimental project of archiving old punk fanzines from the 80s and making them available at low-cost to whoever wanted them. At the same time, the organizers of such a project were asking people to send them old zines to expand their archive. It was a non-profit ongoing project. The whole idea came from the will to not loose experiences and activities from the counter-culture. Punk Container includes articles about the DIY culture, the world of the fanzines and independent press, the history of certain self-released productions and detailed info about the fanzine`s archive that was available at the time.

MONSTER MAIL N7 -(Mail Art Documentation-Global Networking-1997)

 Number 7 of this ongoing mail art project launched by Evan Griffiths back in the 90s. Inside this zine many drawings, a short story, some comics and an extra lino print by Evan himself, all inspired by the subject:MONSTER. Evan was also running a punk distro called Mitsey Distro and a zine Gibbering Madness, you`ll find them clicking the link above. Enjoy it.

Dinosaurs (Mail Art Documentation-Global Networking-1992)

 

 A simple b/w A4  xerox copy this Mail Art documentation for the Mail Art project "Dinosaurs" launched by Xavier Mulet from Barcelona(Spain) with deadline on the end of 1992. His next project was  "Skull-Love Death-and Lady" and I cannot remember if  I sent him something for it. Here the invitation - warning: address very obsolete.

11a Exposição De Arte Postal Século XXI-(Mail Art Documentation-Portugal+Global Networking-1999)

Massive Mail Art documentation released by the City Library of Barreiro in Portugal for their 11th Mail Art exihibition held from the 27th of November to the 18th December 1999.

The documentation is a 148 pages long book printed on glossy paper containing 726 Art Works received for their mail art project/exhibition from 38 different countries.

Very well done and professionally printed,this is a great example of Mail Art networking.Enjoy it.

Catalogue Mail Art Exhibition by Syberia Nova Kultura Center-(Mail Art-Russia+Global Networking-1999)

Mail Art project with no specific subject launched by the Syberia Nova Kultura Center.

They did organize an exhibition on the 27th to the 30th of May 1999 and this is the full catalogue about their Mail Art show, it came with a separate booklet listing the addresses and info about the artists who took part in it.

Many great art-works from various parts of the world.

Project Censure-(Mail Art Documentation-Italy+Global Networking-1998)

International Mail Art project launched by Antonio Sassu with the deadline in 1998. This is the fanzine/documentation about it. 

Quite a few interesting art-works about the subject sent by many mail artists from various angles of the globe.

ARTE POSTAL Hacia El Nuevo Milenio-(Museo De Filatelia De Oaxaca-Mail Art Documentation-Mexico+Global Networking-1999)

Amazing documentation printed in off-set on glossy paper about this mail art project called Arte Postal Hacia El Nuevo Milenio, It was organized by The Philatelic Museum of Oaxaca that made an exhibition which lasted 3 months with a 3 days opening(16-18 December 1999) when there was also a performance by Clemente Padin Vs Gerardo Yepiz on the first day, a debate with various mail artists on the second day and an electroacoustic concert on the third day. 

The documentation has a good introduction about this project, an article about the mail art and one about the electroacoustic gig + a selection of art-works by international mail artists.

Very well done and with interesting articles and critics, this mail art document will make happy all the art postal aficionados.
