Travelling/Viagens (Mail Art Project and Exhibition-Portugal + Global Networking-2002)


 Amazing Mail Art documentation for the project "Travelling/Viagens" promoted by the Portuguese Organization For The Celebral Palsy. It came out as a CDr including all the artworks received for this project/exhibition. It is an amazing documentation, and I am attaching some excerpts from their introduction. The spirit of mail art is the total freedom.

Freedom of creation,ideas,concepts,limits,materials, techniques. Therefore,in substance of mail art is doesn`t have juries,it doesn`t have prizes r any type of classifications. At time,it is suggested to mail artists a subject,as it is the case. But given such freedom,all the proposals are respected and admitted. Also it was and it is the case.

The heading considered to the mail artists “Travelling/Viagens” was chose to try to translate the subject and the spirit of EUROLINE project. EUROLINE is an European Project supported for the Program Culture 2000 of The European Commission,with nine transnational partners,whose primary aim is toe create a line of cultural communication between as many countries and as wide a range of people as possible,including with social disadvantage and deficiency to work creatively in a series of challenging and exciting artists activities and events.


 

In result of all the invitations sent, it had answers coming from the 5 continents, on the part of 409 artists, representing 33 nationalities, in a total of 531 displayed works. In this genre of artists expression, the exhibition surely represents one of the carried through greaters already in Portugal, presented in the Museu Do Carro Electrico for the last three weeks of October 2002.

The event was organised by the Associacao Portuguese de Paralisa Cerebral(APPC) in Porto, who have previous experience in this form of art, in full connection with the EUROLINE partnership.
