THE PETRIFIEDS - Warning!Monsters -(P.A.I.N. Recs-Italy-1997)

Another band in which the Mail Artists Mario Aquilino was involved after the experience with the amazing The Neolithics.

This band plays a form of lo-fi instro horror surf trash`n`roll with the sound of the 50s. This 7ich was half recorded in the practise room of the Ex CIM Okkupato in Foggia with a 4-tracks recorded and half of with a cheapo walkman mono at "4th Beat Festival" 22/06/1996 Castel S. Giovanni (Piacenza). 300 copies back in 1997...hard to find nowadays. Enjoy it.

v.a.-Nothing To Lose...But Our Chains...(ABC/Counter Information-UK-199?)

90 minutes cassette compilation with lots of bands from the political British underground scene of the last century. It was a benefit for the Counter Information paper. The various recordings are pretty good, and there is very little information on the folded cover sleeve.

A compilation very much from that era mixing HC Punk, Dub, and generally anarcho-punk in its various forms. Big thanks to Mark Terminus for this little gem of the lost and found underground world.Enjoy It.

NAIAD - Hardcore Emotion - (Good Life Recordings-Belgium-2003)

An excellent album of emotional melodic screamo/sludge metalcore with a pinch of interspersed ambient.  A great band hailing from Japan, this is their only production on CD.

Good Life Recordings is a Belgian hardcore record label founded by Nations On Fire vocalist Edward Verhaeghe in 1995. Prior to operating Good Life Recordings, Ed operated Warehouse Records (6). After over 20 years of operation, Good Life Recordings is still the main professional Belgian hardcore record label. (from Discogs) Bandcamp--

TOM TYLER - Asleep At The Switch- (D.C. Recordings-UK-2000)

A complex and underrated album by Tom Tyler. Fusing a range of influences that touch electronic jazz, Hip-Hop, and downtempo, it will transport you to another desert of bliss and void. Tom Tyler`s Youtube Channel offers us more amazing music. His Bandcamp page is here, from there this introduction :

From 1998 to 2005 Tom Tyler released a series of EPs & 2 LPs on J Saul Kane's acclaimed DC Recordings imprint, and remixed artists such as The Cinematic Orchestra and Sofa Surfers. He was also a member of Stromba, who released the LP "Tales From The Sitting Room" on FatCat Records.  click me

v.a. - BUAV Benefit - (Buav-UK-199?)

BUAV stands for "British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection"! This extensive compilation tape features numerous bands active during the 1980s, primarily in the hardcore punk scene. It came out with a booklet, each band has a page containing lyrics, graphics and/or messages against vivisection. No date of release is stated anywhere, yet it is my understanding that it was released during the 90s. The quality of the recordings changes from song to song, as overall it is pretty good. Expect lots of HC punk in its various forms, some post-punk and Terminus playing some political folk songs. A big thanks to Mark Terminus for donating this great sampler to this blog. Enjoy it.

FanziNet: anaLogikal Knot Map V. 1.77-(Capit Mundi blog-Italy-2025)

Lately, I have been in touch with Paul Shiva, headmaster of the blog Capit Mundi, and therefore I discover his fantastic work.Paul is working on a digital archive of Italian anarcho-punk fanzines from the 80s! Here I attach his own introduction to such great project! Big Thanks to Babs for the english translation.(faraway)

“Fanzinet”: Toward the Definitive Mapping of 1980s Italian Fanzines

A mapping of  Italian fanzines originating from the punk subculture during the 1980s is currently being developed—as part of a wider and more complex project - on Paolo Palmacci's Capit Mundi? webpage.

In Paolo's words, in that decade every fanzine constituted a "link" that functioned, in actual fact, like an IP address does today and - even if it used basic and essential "protocols" (such as telephone tokens and stamps) - that absolutely analogue network was every bit as good as today's world wide web precisely because these collages of images and texts written by hand and/or typed, mimeographed or photocopied, managed to almost magically make it possible a truly widespread interconnection between people (and between the various musical/artistic scenes spontaneously formed by them), amplifying the resulting creative exchange.

Paolo's research is totally carried out according to a "from below" perspective, essentially for two reasons: first of all because he was part - with his not very well-known bands   of the most deep-rooted underground scene during the 80s and, therefore, this is his “natural” – so to speak - point of view, and secondly because of his consideration that this deluge of self-productions was a sort of “amniotic fluid" without which nothing, even what somehow emerged in the end, would have been possible.

A work of documentation performed with systematic and organic methods, which no one had previously planned or attempted to achieve on the web. To this day, Paolo has “recorded” approximately 670 fanzines, of which about 440 are available free of charge (in keeping with the DIY spirit which created them) in their entirety in PDF format for consultation and/or download.

Paolo tells us that anyone who would like to provide tips, information, news, documents, suggestions and corrections regarding his mapping is very welcome, as the aim is to ensure its widest possible implementation.

If that’s the case, please don't hesitate to write to Capit Mundi?(capitmundi@paolopalmacci.it)

Anyone who would also like to receive updates (mainly retrograde ones) can subscribe to the Capit Mundi Telegram channel by clicking herehttps://www.paolopalmacci.it/capitmundi/blog_fanzine_elenco.html.

For direct consultation

Link to the alphabetical list of fanzines:click here

P.S.: Finally, Paolo tells us that he's planning to release a vinyl compilation entitled “No Capitulation” early next year, as part of his project. It will feature 8 tracks by obscure bands he discovered during his research. He literally described it as “the No New York of the Third Millennium”. Stay tuned!

CRISIS -Reactor4 - (Syndrom Records-UK-2009)

The Crisis project came about in early 2009 after recording the album ‘Reactor4’. Reactor number 4 was the nuclear reactor that exploded within the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Ukraine, in 1986. It was considered to be the worst nuclear disaster in history. The disaster left the city of Prypiat abandoned. To this day the city remains an exclusion zone. The recordings on this album were made to create a soundtrack to the whole era, when in 1986 the Western world learned of the disaster.(Crisis are not linked to the early punk band of the same name).[from Discogs]

The project CRISIS hailing from the UK and came to life after the recordings for ’Reactor4’ were finished. The album got his name from the notorious “Reactor 4” that ultimately caused what is commonly referred to as Chernobyl. For most of us, this is merely a name we connect with a nuclear disaster that happened long time ago. But in fact, it’s one of the most horrifying nuclear catastrophes mankind has experienced in recent history and this album is for us to see it that way again.
If you push the play button, you’ll be entering a desolate environment. In the beginnings, it feels almost like you’d be sort of examining the remnants after the catastrophe with a team of specialists, so from a more detached view, but then a disquieting dread about the cold, dehumanized nature of this place overcomes you. You’re starting to feel the terror that still haunts these ruins, the fear the employees must have felt, the fear of dying. As you walk on you can hear voices all of a sudden; muffled voices buried under the dust of decades, desperate cries and alarms sounding through the corridors like all of this is just happening. ‘Reactor4’ revives all these past events in your mind; makes them horrifyingly real. For that purpose, the project employs cold industrial sound sculpturing coupled to an array of overdriven electronic noises.
Also the voices aren’t a product of a vivid imagination; this is indeed original audio material from the Chernobyl disaster. In my view this underpins once more the graveness of the compositions. All that’s left to say at the end now is that the debut album of this mysterious new project marks an ambient highlight in a year that’s drawing close to its end. I am already looking forward to the next release.(review taken from Reflections Of Darkness webzine)

An interesting interview to this project is on the Syndrom Records blog.    click me

NO ARMY - Senza Resa - (Disobedencia Distro-Mexico-199?)

I must admit that I don`t know much about this band, from the liner notes of the cover-sleeve I understand  that they were punk anarchists from Milano (Italy) and active on the end of the 90s.

This tape was printed and distributed  by the Mexican Disobedencia Distro- the folded cover sleeve reports the lyrics and info in Spanish language.
It includes their demo called Senza Resa and some live tracks from their 1997 tour.
The music is classic anarcho-punk and the recordings is kind of DIY,!

FUGAZI - Live A Forte Prenestino - (Kontagio Produzioni-Italy-1990)

Another live cassette at the famous social squatted center Forte Prenestino released by Kontagio Produzioni back in the 90s. Fugazi needs no introduction, and they played in this squat a few times, this is their gig on the 24/10/1990, the recording is OK and I left it unindexed.

For who missed the other posts: Kontagio Produzioni Tapes was a small distro releasing mostly live tapes recorded in this massive squat(probably the biggest in Europe).
Forte Prenestino is, in fact, a fort squatted on the end of the 80s and still alive and kicking.
