Amazing split tape by these two HC Punk bands-Jagernauts: DIY hardcore/punk/grind band from Athens, Greece, formed in 2010 and Hello Bastards: vegan/straight edge collective from around the world who have been based in London for many years.

The folded cover sleeve reports lyrics and info.

This tapes was co-released by 4 labels  Scull Crasher Records, Alcoholic Desaster, Noise Attack, Severed In Seconds.

 
Split release on green, pro-pressed-tapes. Cover folds out and includes lyrics, made by Jerboa Illustrations.

This edition is limited to 200 copies only, with only 50 distributed in the UK through Severed In Seconds Records. The cassette also comes in three other colours: black, white and transparent.

Hello Bastard side includes some 'unreleased' or 'compilation only' tracks taken from previous recording sessions.

ABSURD N5- An Issue Of Absolute Nothingness-(Fanzine-Greece-2001)

Absurd was an all-English written fanzine from Athens (Greece) active in the early years of last decade. It does cover many aspects of the industrial music scene in Greece and beyond.

For industrial music scene here I mean almost all its subgenres and also difficult music in a broad sense.

The concept itself for editing and writing this issue  is quite genial and I prefer to leave the explanation to the editor :

This issue number 5 evolves into info about quite a few obscure, or less obscure music labels, musicians, gig organizers and music reviews.
In some ways, it looks more like a very useful bulletin with addresses and various info. 

Eventually, I feel this is a very great tool to research the lively international electronic deviated music scene of the early 2000s and at the same time a very nice example of the creative and passionate underground press.

Θάνατος Αρχίζει –Γιατί -Λαυχατατάθλιψη [Thanatos Archizei / Begins the Death - Giati / Why - Lauchatathlipsi]-(Fanzine-Greece-198?)

Very rare Greek fanzines from the last century.

These zines were made by the band Mavra Idanika (Black Ideals) from Athens.

Aesthetically very close to some graphic works of bands such as Crass and Rudimentary Peni as well as the messages contained in these great collages.

Thanatos Archizei(Death Begins) contains

graphics works and texts against the army, (nuclear) wars and religions.

Giati(Why) delivers to us some lyrics by Mavra Idanika + messages against prisons/asylums, state violence, family violence, veganism and animal liberation.

Laukatathlipsi offers us contents about sex and gender, religion, the voting system + political parties, animal exploitation and some music reviews. 

These amazing fanzines were printed around the early and mid-80s and are true evidence of the anarcho-punk movement in the Greek capital during these years.

My gratitude to Ionas of E.T.C. label for passing me these 3 obscure pearls from the deep Greek underground scene and for translating their main messages.

CITIES IN DESOLATION-Demo,Anavyssos Session Pt.1-04/02-(1000+1 TiLt Recordings-Greece-2002)

Another cd and another project by my friend Jason, owner of the label 1000+1 Tilt Recordings a label covered in this blog many times and also prolific musician involved in many acts.

This project started as a trio and after became a duo.

Experimental music made with synth, cello, bass guitar, filtered voices and various machines. It was recorded during spring 2002 in a basement, my copy has two extra tracks, one recorded live in Mostar (Bosnia) and another one from their gig in Ljubliana (Slovenia).

The music evolves in areas such as ambient, drone, ethereal dub experiments and quiet noise.

A very big thanx to Jason for sending me this little jewel more than 10 years ago, for the extra tracks on my copy and all the useful info about it.

GRIM MACHINE-Ghost Industrial-(E.T.C.-Greece-2017)+Hiss Tape-(Concrete Noise/E.T.C.-Greece-2018)+Exotica Mystica-(Concrete Noise/Ru.Mor.Re-Greece-2018)

This is the second post about Grim Machine, in fact, I posted already quite a few of his early productions + the first part of this well-done biography written by the Alexander himself, you find that post here.

Grim Machine is a solo project by Alex M. (The Zyklons, Black Faun)
through found/modified instruments and homemade/readymade sounds it deals with noise and improvisation as machinery made to attack reality, more or less, a useless skronk of freedom. I swapped a few emails with Alexander, the headmaster of this project, He kindly wrote a biography based on his releases.

"Ghost Industrial, which followed shortly after, is an experiment on duration and continuity, a mechanical transcending wall of noise made from MRI scanner loops saturated and manipulated to the point of total destruction/ no recognition, where machine signals become the howling sound of human absence.
The next release was Hisss Tape, February 2018, an experiment inspired by Giacomo Leopardi’s thoughts on Philosophy of the Useless. It is the presentation of a sound/noise archive of every day and “useless” sounds by means of music concrete synthesis. The idea was to form a psychological palindrome narrative of sound itself, with no entry point and no way out. Side A is a 30 minute amplified total distorted cut up pastiche and side B consists of an everyday found-sound collage.
At that time GM started to explore furthermore the use of non- electro-acoustic devices and small instruments creating noise-scapes resembling natural and ethnographical or imaginary world sounds, questioning the distinction between the artificial and natural environment, perception and false identification. Following a growing interest on Field recordings and world traditional music from a sociopolitical point of view, 2018’s Exotica Mystica is the first step towards the idea of OTHER WORLD MUSIC, a “theory in practice” concept based on pan-ethnological primitivism, the primeval impulse of expression and creativity found in common universal roots, sound in ritual acts, a multi-layered experience of self -identification and social identity. The ideological standpoint of OTHER WORLD MUSIC is to utilize sound like an eternal instrument towards total freedom, to blend elements of universal heritage, cultural and artistic, in a free interpretation /statement constructing a collective subconscious soundtrack. To eliminate race, colour, gender, language, time, space…Every sound is played by real instruments or analogue gear and then processed in order to construct a new faux traditional field recording of a hypothetical lost unknown tribe, sans ethnicity and location, a future omen.

Nowadays GM’s main source of inspiration remains ancient art, symbols, myths, and rituals. Though the album releases of GM are conceptual and thematic, live performances are totally improvised rituals where primal form and structural narrative can be organized into a language addressing issues of spontaneity, evolvement, and deliverance. By blending sequences of sound in an unbroken continuity of loop layers and real-time processed physical sources, GM explores the use of noise as a medium of communication and improvisation as a way of storytelling.
Apart from the Grim Machine project, Alex M. also runs Concrete Noise DIY label and is a founding member of the long-lived Greek noise entity BLACK FAUN and the free jazz/improv duo The Zyklons. From 1998 and on he has been in many DIY HC/punk bands with varied discography. As Grim Machine he has 6 releases in E.C.T/ E.D.A and RU.MO.RE cassette/cdr labels and a split tape that includes his soundtrack version to the film Begotten by E.Elias.Merhige. He also participates in NOISE FROM THE RUINS OF EUROPE compilations #1 & 2 that present experimental music from the Balkan and Eastern Europe area. As a live act, he has played RTP festival, Noise Annoys fest, Kino-Bruitism, Multidom/Multeece, Signal Noise Soundsystem and lots of live concerts all around Greece."

"Grim Machine started 2013 as an HNW experimental project dealing with noise as a way of protest in music, an anti-silence statement, opposed to the cultural and moral deprivation that occurred during the worst years of Financial Depression in Greece. Also, it was –and still remains- a political entity, anti-fascist, anti-capitalist and supporting the DIY ethos. The name is a metaphor for the human condition, the man seen as emotive machinery overwhelmed by negative feelings. The first releases were self-made cd-rs, hand painted or printed and distributed hand by hand in DIY concerts, squats and counter culture spaces. Decay and Still Lives are the documentation of that period, existential and strongly political in nature, made from urban sounds loops, broken toy instruments, and noise generators.

 
Along with those came the Ancient Future USB memory stick that included 3 digital mini albums and a folder of GM’s art inspired by rock drawings, prehistoric art, and Art Brut.
In 2016 GM cooperated with EDA/ECT TAPES label in Athens, sharing ideas, organizing gigs and forming a coherent circle of like-minded artists. Heterodoxa is the first tape release on ECT label, mixing a wide range of diverse references such as sound poetry, industrial noise, children’s music, circuit bending, the Dogon Nommo mythology, and tribal fetishism. B side Une Totale Midnight Chamber Music is a live recording from Villa Zwgrafou squat in Athens shortly before it was evacuated, and the title is a schizophrenic homage to three of GM’s beloved artists, Ghedalia Tazartes, SPK, and Violent Onsen Geisha."

AFFLICT/NAFTIA/CHAOS UK in Concerto Al Centro Sociale Autogestito di Udine-(Not On label-Italy-1989)

Very good recording of this punk gig at the social squatted center of Udine(Northern Italy)on the 7th of October 1988.

Afflict from Holland, Chaos UK from England and Naftia from Greece share the small stage of this cool squat to blast their furious HC Punk with political messages.

Inside the cover sleeve few notes about Naftia and their songs, bands addresses and info about the squat.

v.a.Anti System Front Compilation Tape n1-(ASF Distro-Greece-199?)

Number 1 of this  compilation serie,I already posted the number two. It doesn`t seems easy to find info about this small distro based in Thessaloniki during the early 90s.

The recordings are kind of ok,although some pretty rough!

Nice 60 minutes sampler with various bands from around the world.A good selection of tracks with good recordings too.

I have little info about this tape label.Inside the folded cover sleeve you`ll find the tracklist and the addresses of the bands included, some info (in Greek language only) and some graphics works.

A good compilation for people into  Punk, New Wave, and similar music styles.

Greenhouse-Visual Propaganda Magazine n1-(Self Released-Greece-199?)

Issue number 1 of this cool greek fanzine edited and distributed by Yiannis Thomatos in Athens,it was the beginning of  the 90s,I posted already the Number 2.

In this issue some  amazing collages (some in english, some other in greek language) and few articles(only in greek).

Very nice,old school diy done.A big Thanx to Zoe for the basic info translations.

Εκτός Ελέγχου-Εκτός Ελέγχου-(Self Released-Greece-1985)

Εκτός Ελέγχου Romanized to: Ektos Elenghou Translated to: Out Of Control. Punk/Rock'N'Roll band from Thessaloniki, Greece. Started playing in 1982 as "Συν Και Πλην", but in 1984 they changed their name to "Εκτός Ελέγχου". They released a Demo cassette in 1985.(info taken from a discogs page deditcated to them). A wikipedia page about them is here only in greek language.  I have no idea how this tape ended up in my collection,some greek distro must have sent me long time ago,I didn`t know anything about this band as I could not even read their name,everything changed when my friend Zina(big thanx) translated  their name and so I could search info about them on the net.On the cover sleeve there are only the songtitles(in english),no info of any sort.Maybe this is the demo that came out in 1985 but I am not sure 100%.It has a good recording.Anyone out there with more info about this tape???Enjoy the punk rock sung in greek.

Greenhouse n2-(Fanzine-DIY-Greece-1994)

Small and very creative fanzine edited and ditrubuted by Yiannis Thomatos in Athens,it was the beginning of  the 90s and this is the second number of his totally diy zine.

It includes amazing collages and graphix mixing political statments with commentary and poetic writings.

Few comincs,great graphix works,some articles...properly done  "diy style",it is very pretty and well done.

Only in greek languange.

Old international compilation with anarcopunk bands.I cannot find info about this small greek label called ASF based in Thessaloniki.There is no release date stated anywhere on the cover sleeve,I guess it came out on the early 90s.The overall recording is pretty good.

Anthems For A Society In Decline n1-(Fanzine-Greece-199?)

This is the first issue of Anthems For A Society In Decline,a good fanzine edited by Costas in Thessaloniki(Greece),I believe, in the early 90s.

In this issue you`ll find some long interviews to Virtual Reality(UK),Intolerance(Spain),Parkaj Mental(France),ManLifting Banner(Holland),Punishment Park(Norway) + a spanish punk report and few nice flyers.

ETICA ASCETICA-10 Years Anniversay Tape,The Worst Of...-(1000+1 Tilt-Greece-c90-1999)

Etica Ascetica(Ascetic Ethics) is another name for the ghost collective E.A., I spoke about this project many times now posting all the tapes and some of their art-fanzines. 

This tape, as the titles refer, was a celebration for 10 years of activities, it is a compilation of songs taken from the other tape-works released previously. It was compiled by Raff during the summer 1999 and then released by Iason on his cool label 1000+1 Tilt in Greece on the end of the same year.
