This small documentation includes lots of very nice art-works by many mail artists,I think came out in 1992 or 1993 and it was conceived for the anti-celebration of the discovery of the American continent.
A great cd by this amazing band from Foggia (Southern Italy)! They were active in the 90s in their hometown`s squats,I talked about them when I posted the AntiRepression Tape split with Brandelli D`Odio.
In this very good cd recorded in a professional studio,Full Slap show us their great ability as musicians. They mix hc punk, reggae, funky and a bit of jazz with a very personal touch and the lyrics are very good too.
It was recorded in Bologna in 1995,They splitted up in 1997 and came out in 2007 as a total diy production released by Renzo alone.
Their music reminds me some stuff of the early Red Hot Chili Peppers and Infectious Grooves, also Full Slap is one of the very first band of Renzo Ruggiero who will, later, play with Follorum Enslamble and Arkitesi.
This is a very good cd for people into creative crossover of various music styles.Enjoy it.
Split tape released by Piscina Okkupata (Swimming Pool Squat) active in Foggia(Southern Italy) in the beginning of the 90s. 2 bands coming from this squat and touring to raise up funds for legal expenses.I wrote already about Brandelli D`Odio when I posted few videos and the double cd Sopravvivo ?. Full Slap were playing a kind of crossover music touching the punk and the funky reminding me some stuff of the early Red Chilli Peppers, very good musicians, this is one of the first bands of Renzo Ruggiero who will, later, play with Follorum Enslamble and Arkitesi.
This tape came out with a booklet containing leaflets about the squat and lyrics of the bands.
It was recorded at the The Blitz Squat in Rome:the recording is not always good.
I guess this is only for people into political messages rather than just music.
The Neolithics was a band hailing from Foggia(Southern Italy) and playing a raw and "primitive" garage rock 60s style, they were in love with this music genre and they had great skills in song-writings. They formed in 1989 and played until 1993,after that they took different paths: Mario formed the mighty Petrifieds,Massimo and Jack went to join the medieval band Follorum Ensamble and Pennello got involved with the HC punk band Oltraggio e Resistenza.
This cd called Eclipse was a c90,the last cassette they released and it contains all their recordings:the first demo "From the cave"recorded in the first squat of their own town with a cheap sound system and a 4 tracks recorder,"Live 92" is a live recording of their gig in Montesilvano supporting the Fuzztones and few extra tracks recorded in the practise room of Diskarika Occupata(the squat in which they were involved). A big thanx to PuppyBArf for the digital conversion of this great tape. The Neolithics are considered one of the best band of this music style coming from the Italian Boot during the wonderful 90s. Enjoy it. *F*a*R*a*W*a*Y* click me
Arkitesi is a project founded by 3 musicians from Foggia(Southern Italy),2 of them already involved in Follorum Ensemble, they offer us a very unique form of folk music flirting with a bit of jazz and swing, sort of reminding me some old classic movies soundtracks.
There are three instruments played with bows:a violin,a double bass and a nyckelharpa.
As far as I know they were active for few months back in 2009,they recorded this cd-r completely diy, played few gigs and then took different paths.
To complete this lousy introduction I am attaching here a slide-show from my Youtube channel. In this folder you will find also 3 extra tracks that my friend Gianni sent me as special gift with the pictures included in the video.
Enjoy this amazing and quite distinct music. A great project beyond the usual cliche` and labels. *f~a*r~a~w*a*y* click me
Voices Green and Purple was a mail art project managed by the mail artist Mario Aquilino. This is the documentation to this project.13 mail artists took part sending A5 size artworks to Mario who assembled them into a fanzine. Beside the mail art Mario was also involved in 2 seminal bands,he was in fact a very good guitar player with a great love for the garage punk, the psychedelic movement of the 60s and the b-movies. He played in The Neolithics:a very good band of garage punk 60s style. I passed to Radiomolotov blog their discography tape "Eclipse" back in 2009,that link is still ok,please go here to get that fabulous tape. When The Neolithics splitted up Mario formed with few friends The Petrifieds,a band into surf raw rock`n`roll and b-movies culture.Gianamria of Italian Do It Yourself blog posted both tape and 7inch by this band-please get it here Sadly Mario passed away in december 1997 and I still miss him very much. This post is dedicated to him. ~f~a~r~a~w~a~y~
Another video by Brandelli D`Odio this time not a long "theatrical performance" but a very short HC Punk song, in fact 1 minute only. This is the very first line up of Brandelli D`Odio and the video was recorded in the practise room of the Squatted Swimming Pool(Social Squatted Center in Foggia-Southern Italy) during October 1993.Gianni was the vocalist, only for this track and the lyric is about the tanax.
The intro and the outro are fragments taken from Electric Tie by Emblema Angelico as those two projects were very closely connected by strong bonds. For people into fast distorted music with a short additional electronic deviated twist...
N.I.S. is a crust punk band from Foggia,Southern Italy. Nico (former drummer of Brandelli D`Odio) is playing with them, and he sent me this little introduction.
"N.I.S.(irreversible system`s
necrosis)was born in 2007.In 2008 they record their first demo" Presagi Di Un` Insulsa Rovina" 9 tracks of "violent crust
punk".
In 2009 They record a promo
of 5 tracks "Specie Di Scarto", 3 tracks on a 7 inch split
with Humus, and 2 tracks on an international compilation "Destruyendo Fronteras" released by the brazilian webzine "Crust or Die".
In 2011 They are back in
studio to record 3 tracks that will be part of another split
7ich,this time with Warpath.
And then lots of
gigs, gigs, gigs, ...they also took part to a protest gig! Under the
wall of CIE* in Bari.
In december 2013 they finish
to record 8 tracks of metallic crust punk.A new album will be
released soon."
*CIE is a "house"
for the illeganl immigrants where they are actually imprisoned upon
their arrival in Italy.
Here another video performance by Brandelli D`odio-I spoke already about this squatters collective active in the 90s! Here that post where you will find more info about this band, also their double cd+ zine "Sopravivvo?" is still available as free download on radiomolotov blog.
This performance is the 4th idea of experimental theatre conceived as opening for their gigs during the tour in 1995 and 1996,it was a short piece of only 10mins and it did involved at the least 6 people. The main message was the lack of freedom into the mental hospitals and the slavery of the psychopharmacological drugs.
This performance was mainly made in the dark with very little lights created by the slide show, therefore those images are quite dark and the overall quality of those videos is compromised by the lights effects of the slides.
The music is the original soundtrack recorded on a 4track recorder and the quality is pretty good, also this is the only soundtrack that seems a real songs rather than a musical piece for a theatre, and it is the only performance for which Brandelli d`Odio never printed a flyer to introduce it during their gigs. Those footages are totally unreleased and never used before.More info in the video.Enjoy it!!
Follorum Ensemble is a band from Puglia (Southern Italy),they were born in Foggia but later expanded their line up collaborating with other musicians from that area. They are still active nowdays but the line up changed quite a few times since they started back in the 90s,This cd is old and it`s not available any longer. When they started they were using the little chapel in the Ex Cim Occupato in Foggia as practise room(Ex Cim was a big squatted hospital with a little chapel-church in it) They often played benefit gigs in this squat and during the summer they were often taking part to festivals and street parties . Their music is a classic example of medieval music played with ancient instruments. And they are definitely masters of those instruments. Enjoy it.
