VICTIMS - double c60 - Extreme Smoke 57 + Yugoslavian Compilation (Tabula Rasa-Italy-1995)

Victims is a double cassette+zine released by Tabula Rasa in 1995 with the help and support of Contaminated Productions.
The project was about the war in the ex-Yugoslavia happened in the early 90s.
The zine included  some letters from Yugoslavians friends of Contaminated Prods telling their experiences during the  war and few interesting articles about  the reality of that war.
The music is by Extreme Smoke 57 on one tape and the other tape is a compilation of Yugoslavian bands playing mostly grind core.
The package was very well done-the two tapes  glued on a piece of wood and then all attached to the fanzine-All was coming in a fabric folder  sprayed with a stencil.(pics here)
All the articles and letters are in Italian, however in this folder I did included all the English translations, provided by my friend Babs, thanx a lot Babs.
As introduction to this very special tape production I think it is just easy and better to let you read what Contaminated Productions boss wrote to introduce this project at the time.
I guess Carlo of Tabula Rasa didn`t print many of these tapes and I know this is pretty rare now days.
Enjoy it and good reading too.
ps-these tapes are not indexed.

Victims – A problem solved

… It doesn’t seem easy to write the presentation of this double-tape because of all the things that have happened in these years, so I’ll try to go in order and explain the reasons of this revival occurred four years later.

In September 1991 I received these two tapes from MILAN DURIC (from Smeredevo) along with thirty numbered covers so that I could help him spread the work made by his friend, the then singer (or guitarist) with EXTREME SMOKE 57, in Italy.

At the time I was regularly in touch with Milan as we used to exchange tapes and ideas. Then with his last letter (which came along with the two tapes and is published here), Milan warned me of the coming of the conflict and asked me not to forgive him should he die in that absurd war.

During the same period (1990-91) I established a strong and extensive correspondence with SASA MILUTINOVIC (from Sarajevo), and I still manage to exchange letters and messages with him thanks to
some Catholic humanitarian associations, which are currently providing for postal services in those areas of ex-Yugoslavia.

I wonder whether the two boys have ever met. However we decided to publish their letters for this reason: on the one hand Milan’s last letter which was never followed by any other (perhaps Milan died in the war, perhaps – as we hope – he managed to escape), on the other hand the many letters sent by Sasa, which depict the tragedy of the war, its fears and the horror which is going on a few kilometres away from us.

Their letters are a direct, simple and effective documentation of the war in Yugoslavia.

Two boys who before the war were interested in self-production, distribution, punk music … who are they now? What have they become?

We can have a hint from Sasa’s last letters but we don’t intend to play the sociologists or psychoanalysts. What we feel the urge to do now is to make known the work of these two boys who had so much in common with us.

Coming back to the music, when I received these two tapes I was a little bit puzzled. Indeed, some of the titles on the cover of Extreme Smoke 57 didn’t appeal much to me (see ‘Rape Your Sister or ‘Cicciolina’). The recording was not that good either. For these reasons, added to a series of coincidences occurred at that time in my life, I didn’t take care of spreading these tapes.

Today, in the light of the mistakes made in these years, I decided to pass this material on to Carlo of TABULA RASA!, and help him prepare this production, especially to get the chance to talk about my Yugoslavian friends and of this sad war.

If you bought this production only to listen to the bands you might be disappointed, but in this world there are many other things besides music… a word to the wise…

v.a....INTO SERVICE FOR CITIZEN? (double c60 + booklet - Glittoride- Italy -1996)

"Into The Service For  Citizen?"  was a benefit double cassette compilation for the squats in Foggia, it was released by GlittoRide label, it came out in a very special package.
The fanzine was attached on a piece of hard cardboard where the two tapes were kind of glued with strong tape, pictures included here.
The booklets reports leaflets(with English translations) of different actions and repression happened in the small southern Italian town+ lots of other cases of police repression. The photocopies of my copy are not the best and I tried to make the best out of it while scanning those pages.
Very interesting articles all around the zine.
As for the music, this is crust punk and grind core-political lyrics and fast music. Very good bands and some stuff never released before.
Third World Planet, Kirous, Battle of Disarm, Scum of Society, Snifter, Antitude, Punto G, Schmrtz, Inkisicao , Voice of  Illegal, SubGenious and few more make this compilation a yummy one for the crusties all over the world.
The precious value of this compilation is the contribution by  Brandelli D`Odio with one track completely unreleased with a mono live recording and the songs by Piz8, this band was a fun crust band from Foggia, they never released anything, only recorded a bunch of songs and almost all of them are included in this nice compilation.
Crust as Fuck.

THE PURPLE OHM PROJECT - double k7- (Bestattungsinstitut- Germany-Love Is The Reason Why -UK-199?)

THE PURPLE OHM PROJECT is  a special project created by Gina fear from Uk  and Siegmar Fricke from Germany.
Siegmar Fricke is the famous artist involved in all those bands Ambulatorio Segreto , Delta-Sleep-Inducing Peptide , Doppelwirkung , Efficient Refineries , New Tits On The Cock , Nome De Voyage 2
and also very active as solo artist producing  cassette and albums since the end of the 80s.
Gina Fear is the artists responding to Gina & Gipsy and From Nursery To Misery
I already posted on this blog 3 tapes by Gina Fear.
This is the only one  with the name The Purple Ohm Project and it seems to be a full co-operation between those two very talented artists. Unfortunately  I cannot find any more info about this tape,I guess it was self released by both artists as it states both labels managed by themselves.
I reckon came out in the beginning of the 90s.As for the music you can listen here some very accurate hypno-electro experimental tunes and some other nice soft synth pop songs, everything is very well crafted with love and passion. The cover-sleeves are handpainted with pastel colours.
The tape number 1 is called "My Hair On Fire" and the tape number 2 brings the name "Tribes & Our Gang Guys".No info were added in the little sheet beside the  song-titles  and the artists addresses.
Anybody out there with more info about this double cassette production????
For the lovers of the mystery and the magic.

BRANDELLI D`ODIO-Alarms:Symptoms Of Emotions To Come(video-performance)[Original recording 1993>96 final editing 2014]NEW and UNRELEASED-Engl.Subs.

Brandelli D`Odio was a collective of squatters coming from different towns  and based in the squats in Foggia (Southern Italy),they were active  from 1993  until 1997, acting as a kind of open collective.Their line up changed various time according to how they were planning their shows and the different possibilities of the time-travel circumstances.
They used to mix into their live shows music and experimental theatre.
During their short life they released 2 tape productions  and 2 seven inches, one of those posthumous. In 2006 a double cd called  "Sopravvivo?" was released, it did include almost all the discography of this band. This double cd is still available as free download on Radiomolotov blog, on that post there is a full biography too. Here for all  of you more curious about it.
Their music changes, going from fast HC punk to industrial  and dark ambient. This performance is the third idea of experimental theatre and it was performed in 1995/96.
There are few footage of this performance, however Brandelli d`Odio were also experimenting with videos and slide shows including those media in their live acts, this video is therefore a creative  yet incomplete attempt to re-create the meaning  and messages of this idea. Some of this footage were filmed in1993-94 as a media to be used in future shows or video compilations, some other is footage taken at some gigs and all together represent a way of delivering messages and creativity that was a complete part of the life of this  band.
This video is completely unreleased and shows unseen scenes and experiments of those  years. The thriving force behind the meaning of this performances is the pollution of our times both physical and mental.
If you know this band for their HC punk songs then you`ll see here something completely different.
Thanx to Denise Ferrante for the english translation of the leaflet here  included -thanx to Cynthia of Espace Autogere` (Lausanne-Switzerland) for some of the pics and a very big thanx to Luigi Apollo Altilia for the support and help during the work in progress and the final editing of this video.I hope  that you will enjoy this video experiment.

MENTAL ANGUISH - The Killing Floor (Audiofile Tapes-Usa-c60-1988)

Mental Anguish is the project by Chris Phinney, still active now days.
He is also the mastermind of Harsh Reality music, old and prolific label of experimental electronic music born in the 80s.
This tape is crafted with electro experiments and rhythms that are a kind of trademark of that music  born in the 80s and at the time very underground and unknown.
This  beatiful artwork on cassette came out on the legendary tape label  Audiofile Tapes  managed by Carl Howard.
I pretty much like this tape-a very creativity flow runs  throughout this music and if you are into esoteric elctronickx and hypno-electro then you`ll love this Mental Anguish cassette.
A real  jewel from the crypt of the 80s.
Enjoy it.
