BADGEWEARER – F.T.Q. - (Gruff Wit Records-UK-1991)
Tony
Kennedy born in Glasgow in 1966, is the founding and now only remaining
member of the jazz punk band BADGEWEARER championed by John Peel among
others. Earning critical acclaim from many quarters including single of
the week in the Melody Maker and numerous other international accolates.
He turned down Jelo Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label to remain with
independent Glasgow label Gruf Witt, releasing over a ten year period: 4
Lp’s and 6 7” singles. In the meantime teaming up with Pakito Bolino
and Caroline Sury as part of the Marseille art collective Le derniere
Crie to form the art noise phenomenon MUG, who performed at festival
Mimi as well as being invited to record a Peel session. His last
performance was a live improvisation with legendary CAN singer Damo
Suzuki in Edinburgh. Badgewearer then became a solo project, involving
collaborations with dancers, poets and writers. He
currently plays one of the three basses with the new Mexico based
Albuquerque band Tiny Americans, with former members of 3 Mile Pilot and
Truman’s Water, specializing in live film soundtracks. Which has led to
his most recent collaboration with the Rotterdam based video artist
Marit Shalem.(from his official webpage) click me

I have already written about them when I posted their cassette Out Of Tune,Out Of Time... released in 1991 just as this vinyl.
Expect the same dose of weird and original sounds, fragmented guitar riffs, broken rhythms, screamed vocals and more rather bizarre passages.
A wonderful 7inch for people into difficult Post-Hardcore Punk to digest. It comes with a little info-sheet with lyrics, all the relevant scans included here.
Enjoy it.

DAWSON-First Peel Session 09/05/90-(Unreleased-UK-1990)
First Peel session by this amazing Scottish band, I have already posted the second one and some of their studio productions. As the description there fits very well in this post I just gonna C+P it here. I am adding a great video made for the song"Bears Den To Bagdad" discovered on their FB page.
Back in
the early 90s, I was in touch with Dawson, They kindly sent me an
amazing tape with some live recordings by various Scottish post-hardcore
noise bands, the tape also contained 2 Peel sessions by Dawson!
Unfortunately, I lost the letter that came with this cassette but I
reckon these recordings were not released and I cannot find any info about it. I left them as waves.
I already wrote about this fantastic band: compared
to names such as Butthole Surfers and Minutemen, Dawson throws in their
songs sheer violence and electric energy mixing some Avant-guard fast
chaotic guitars riffs, math rhythms, weird vocals and experimental
jingles that make their music original and difficult to categorize.
Coming
out from the very lively Noize Post Hardcore punk scene from the end of
last century, they shared common interests and sweats with Stretchheads, Whirling Pig Dervish and Archbishop Kebab, all very original bands hailing from Scotland.
An FB page about them is here,
where you can see old flyers and pics, a new band formed by the 3rd era
Dawson musicians are called Sumshapes and their Bandcamp page is here, you can listen/buy their album Cabin Biscuits released June 30, 2017.
I guess
there is no need to talk about John Peel and his famous radio show, all the music lovers around the world should know John Peel already. The recording of this tape is excellent.
Enjoy it.

EX CATHEDRA/MACHINEGUN ETIQUETTE-[Split Tape]Live at AZ Bazille Kassel-12.05.96(Zebra Core-Germany-1996)
"Ex-Cathedra are an anarcho punk band from Glasgow, Scotland.
They got together in 1991 and in late 1993 we heard about them after
buying a copy of their first single on their own label. We did a single
‘Tresspass’ and then offered them an album. Their debut album, ‘Tartan
Material’ was produced by Frankie (Leatherface) Stubbs. One more single
followed a cover of Culture Club’s ‘Karma Chameleon’ then they were off.
They are still going strong and I think they have a second album out on
MoonSka records as well as a new compilation of early stuff including
the ‘Tresspass’ E.P. You can usually catch them on tour playing all
around the UK and Europe"(from discogs)
"Machine Gun Etiquette were a political punk rock band from Ayrshire, Scotland, formed in the mid-nineties by vocalist/bassist Rat Cunningham.
Machine Gun Etiquette released a number of demos through 1994-96 (“Revolution in the Head” tape as well as the “No Frills” demo tape.) The band released split records with Ex-Cathedra & Juggling Jugulars in the late 90s before finally releasing their 16 track debut album “Hate this city” (Problem Child) in 2000, as well as a single - the “Self Respect” EP (Campary Records). In 2003 Machine Gun Etiquette released their final album “Reality Check”, and played their final gig, supporting MDC at the Path Tavern in Kirkcaldy. A final 7” single was released on Campary - “Hate This City” - with a re-recorded and re-worked version of “Joe Public” as the B-side (featuring Stiff from Ex-Cathedra/Scunnered performing a ‘special’ “Evening Times!” intro…)"(from lasfm)
This is a split tape recorded live at their gig at AZbazille in Kassel(Germany)on 12/05/1996 and it was released by Zebra-Core,little label based in Duisburg(Germany).

WHIRLING PIG DERVISH-Out Of Tune,Out Of Time...-(Yummy Orgasm Recs-UK-1991)

They were part of the avant-hardcore scene of this Scottish town back in the 90s.
Probably friends with bands like:Dawson,Archbishop Kebab, Stretchheads and Keatons.
They play a crazy form of HC punk touching the highs of Minutmen and The Pop Group with some post punk sounds.
Everything mashed up with screams, acid guitars, some unknown noise, fast drums and powerful bass guitar.
Here a discogs page dedicated to them where you can read about their other productions.
Enjoy it.

ATTACKED BY WOLVES - Up A Bit From Down - (Destroy All Music-UK-1994-c30)
Another tape released by Destroy all Music, good enough I have found one copy of their catalogue so here I am going to copy what they wrote to introduce this tape on their catalogue.
"Attacked by Wolves-Up A Bit From Down(c30-£1.50)-some of the best stuff yet from this man,he creates crop circles of avant-garde which gradually stray temporarily into the fields of avant-rock, like a cross of Factor X ,Small Things but mostly ZGA with runaway scuzz-honk.Don`t ignore..."
About this scottish label active during the 90s here what they wrote:
"Destroy All Music is a new kind of label specialising in lo-fi noise-art-punk-jazz-no-wayexperimental and anything with alternative edge or viewpoint.Destroy All Music is also a queercore label, written big and proud and wants confrontational bands ,so if you are in a band send us a tape or what you are just interested!!!"
