ABSURD N5- An Issue Of Absolute Nothingness-(Fanzine-Greece-2001)

Absurd was an all-English written fanzine from Athens (Greece) active in the early years of last decade. It does cover many aspects of the industrial music scene in Greece and beyond.

For industrial music scene here I mean almost all its subgenres and also difficult music in a broad sense.

The concept itself for editing and writing this issue  is quite genial and I prefer to leave the explanation to the editor :
This issue number 5 evolves into info about quite a few obscure, or less obscure music labels, musicians, gig organizers and music reviews.
In some ways, it looks more like a very useful bulletin with addresses and various info.

Eventually, I feel this is a very great tool to research the lively international electronic deviated music scene of the early 2000s and at the same time a very nice example of the creative and passionate underground press.
Thanx to Jason of 1000+1 TiLt Recordings for sending me this astonishing zine a long time ago.
Enjoy it.

INK-Reagent Specs-(Monitor Records-USA-2001)

Ink was a minimalist post-rock band from Baltimore, Maryland(USA) formed in 1997 from the remains of Maryland scene bands Candy Machine and Science Kit.
Composed of Peter Quinn (Vocals), Lyle Kissack (Drums), and Craig Bowen (Guitars), the trio released two albums, 2000's Ink, and 2002's Reagent Specs. Both were issued on Monitor Records. By the time the band had run its course, in 2005 or so, the trio had expanded to a quartet and Nat Rabb was being credited as bassist.(info from lastfm)

ZUB n7-(Fanzine-Self Released-Portugal-2001)

Graphics art fanzine made of collages, xerox experiments, comics and minimal copy art alterations reminding me some mail art, dadaism and toward the future hidden secret messages.
Few words, No poems, No articles just plain black and white shadows and xerox-art manipulations.
Underground press at its finest, for the lovers of this kind of alter-ego no-sense exploitations.
It came out in a limited edition of 100 copies in September 2001, I guess it is not easy to find nowadays.
Enjoy it.

v.a.-Mad Pride-Nutters With Attitude-(Mad Pride Records-UK-2001)

Gread cd compilation dedicated to the Mad Pride:a mass movement of the users of mental health services, former users, and their allies. The first known event specifically organized as a Pride event by people who identify as psychiatric survivors/consumer/ex-patients was in Toronto, Canada when it was called "Psychiatric Survivor Pride Day", held on September 18, 1993. It was first held in response to local community prejudices towards people with a psychiatric history living in boarding homes in the Parkdale area of the city, and has been held every year since then in this city except 1996.[1] By the late 1990s similar events were being organized as Mad Pride in London, England and around the globe from Australia to South Africa and the United States, drawing thousands of participants, according to MindFreedom International, a United States mental health advocacy organization that promotes and tracks events spawned by the movement.[2]

Mad Pride activists seek to reclaim terms such as "mad", "nutter", and "psycho" from misuse, such as in tabloid newspapers. Through a series of mass media campaigns, Mad Pride activists seek to re-educate the general public on such subjects as the causes of mental disabilities, the experiences of those using the mental health system, and the global suicide pandemic.[citation needed] One of Mad Pride's founding activists was Pete Shaughnessy, who later died by suicide.[3] Robert Dellar and Simon Barnet were among the other founders of the movement. Mad Pride: A celebration of mad culture records the early Mad Pride movement.[4] On Our Own: Patient-Controlled Alternatives to the Mental Health System, published in 1978 by Judi Chamberlin, is a foundational text in the Mad Pride movement, although it was published before the movement was launched.[5]

BRUTOPOP - Defrost - (Flop Records-Italy-2001)

Here the double compilation cd by the genius Brutopop-a very difficult band to review because they played for a long time changing style as the years were passing by...yet they kept their original aurea of proto punk/rap/hip hop/art rock and electro madness.
This double cd gives us a great compendium of what they managed to create in their life.
A very good example of creativity and exquisite fantasy.
A discogs page about  Flop Records is here.
Enjoy it.

"Audio Resistance is a d.i.y. music collective based in Rome born in 2000 in the outskirts of the city. Our sounds are against copyright because we think that music and culture in general should not be for sale but should be free and accessible to every body. We choose to selfproduce our music because we think it is a way to make our expression free outside the rules of capital. It is very important for us to share experience with people around the world. So we invite anyone who should be interested to contact us to try to create a collaboration.
From here you can listen and download our d.i.y. music realeases and other d.i.y. releases from people and
friends around us. We want to promote the indipendent music, we want to spread the world like a germ."
