v.a. - Tribute To Rudimentary Peni - (Pumpkin Records-UK-2012)

 Amazing compilation with a bunch of great bands covering the famous British anarcho punk band formed by Lead singer/guitarist Nick Blinko notorious for his witty, macabre lyrics and dark pen-and-ink artwork, prominently featured on all of Rudimentary Peni's albums.

Pumpkin Records  is a British DIY collective formed in 2006 in Manchester that do some not for profit releases, distribute records, run the Pumpkin Records Studio, put on gigs (in the Manchester area with SLit Promotions) and help with tour booking.(Bandcamp Page) Enjoy it.

Ατοπία – Ατοπία - (Do It Yourself-Greece-2012)

 ATOPIA is the evolution of a legendary 90s Greek anarcho-punk band ANATELLON TROMOS, before Alexandros joined in. I wrote about Alexandros when I interviewed him about another of his ex-band Straitjacket Fit.

At the moment Alex has 2 interesting tribal/industrial projects : Grim Machine and Black Faun, both projects already covered in this blog.

Atopia plays a personal form of HC punk mixed with some prog-thrash metal, interesting is the use of the violin played by Despina,it comes out as a special sound but somehow it fits there,making this cd well worth exploring.

I have to admit that it took me a while to get the whole picture of their music,somehow it is intense.Probably understading the lyrics will make a huge difference.

A big thanks to Alexandros for this great gift sent to me via d E last summer and a big thanks to Ion of E.T.C. for writing in romanic characters the Greek titles and traslating them into english + translating the introduction for this cd by the band:

BLACK IDEAS-The Field-(Self Released-Greece-2012)

 

Black Ideals were formed in Athens, Greece in the summer of 1983. The original line-up comprised Pavlos Avouris (voice), Christos Vougas (bass), Petros Magoulas (guitar), Stathis Salvanos (drums). From January 1984 we carried on as a trio (omitting the guitar), until the Spring of 1985, when a second bassist was added (Maria Vassilakis). We played two gigs (Megara, 13/1/85; Patissia Students' Hostel, Athens, 27/4/85) and published two fanzines ('Why', 'Lauvepression'). We self-released a cassette in 1985. Our songs were included in three compilation cassettes ('Instead Of A Magazine', US, 1984; 'S2D - Sous Deux Dictatures', France, 1985; 'Ground Zero', West Germany, 1985). Our last rehearsals took place in the summer of 1985.

DYSKINESIA-Dalla Nascita-(Frohike Records-Italy-2012)

 DYSKINESIA is an italian band focused on music experimentation. Since the beginning (late 2006) the band (2 guitars, drums) began to perform with a simple approach, focusing on sound and improvisation. The musical outcome was a very raw mixture of stoner/psychedelic genres (see “Live in Pripyat” – Varjot Prod. – 2007). In early 2008 the band grows (5 people), taking a more stretched out approach, exploiting the presence of vocals (very weird vocals made with delay and other machines) and bass guitar (also a very deep noise monster). Through the years, the band style embraced anoise/drone approach, with neverending repetitions and oppressive atmosphere. The first full lenght (self titled “Dyskinesia” – Frohike – Creative Field Rec. – Cold Current Prod. – 2008) is a proof of this shifting.
2010 has benn a very prolific period. The guys recorded a couple of split albums, with other great italian drone/ambient projects like “Corpoparassita” and “Gioventù Suicida Studentesca”, and prepared their second full lenght "Dalla Nascita". These last three recordings, have been made with the collaboration of the sound master Camelio Cripta.(from Discogs)

This album was released by the Italian label Frohike Recs in 2012 and then re-released on cassette by the British label Cruel Nature Records in 2014.

 Limited edition of only 20 copies, this cassette by the Swedish Diskad will make happy the crust punk lovers around the world.

SELF DEFENSE-(Fanzine-The Infoshop of Kathmandu-Nepal-2012)

A very nice and short fanzine made by the people managing the infoshop in Kathmandu in Nepal, very possible involved in Rai Ko Ris.

As the subtitle says "A Collection of articles, poems, writings + cartoons about women"! There is a mix and mash of writings, well done with passion and love, you`ll find here quite a few ideas to research.

Phoolan Devi(1963-2001): her life and struggle, very interesting indeed. 

Some personal writings against machismo and sexism, some poetries and some drawings.

I was really touched by some of these writings, some stuff is in Nepali with English translations , some other in English and some in Nepali only.

Alerta Antifascista Records is a label, distribution, mail-order, and booking agency for loud and heavy music based in Hannover, Germany.

The label offers many sub-genres of punk, hardcore, and metal and adopts an anti-fascism attitude.

HOSTILITER-Age Of Decay-(Suoni Oscuri-Italy-2012)

Hostility was a crust punk band born in 2010 in the Italian city of Viterbo,(Lazio Region). The line up was: Frederico guitar and vocals, Agostino on bass and Coli on drums.
In March 2011, five tracks for Intoxication were recorded.
The lyrics deal with such topics as a criticism of the system, war and religion.
This tape comes with a folded cover sleeve reporting lyrics in Italian and English, the recording is very good.

Unfortunately, they are no longer active yet you can check their bandcamp page here, where you find other great productions

while on their FB page you`ll see old flyers and videos.

Their music has a gloomy crust punk edge filled with heavy metallic sounds, think Amebix meets Neurosis deep in the ocean.

Ex Ánimo n8-(Fanzine-Sweden-2012)

Number 8 of this crust punk fanzine managed by Jannah in Sweden, I have already posted the Number 6  released in 2011. 
Also in this issue some good reviews of punk gigs and festivals in Sweden.

Lots of pictures, although printed in black and white as photocopy the quality of the pics is very good, I guess this is printed with a digital xerox machine. 

It is all written in Swedish Language, so this is only for the Swedish literates.

Distortion Faith n2+n3-(Fanzine-Sweden-2012)

"Distortion Faith is a hardcore punk fanzine done by Krogh (Blindead Productions) and Jocke (D-takt & Råpunk). Issues #1 through #5 also included Kårén (SMRT Records)."(from Blinded Productions)
Swedish hardcore punk fanzine formed in 2012. English language. Great design and layouts with full colour covers, black and white inside.

Number 2 contains interviews with: Crash Mange, Ake, Svart Stadhjalp, Korsfast, and Annihilation Radio.24 pages, 21 x 15 cm.

 Number 3 offer us interviews with Makabert Fynd, Warvictims, Turist I Tilluaron, Skizophrenia, D-Clone, Hondartzako Hondakinak, Utanfor skapet,Kronofogen.

It is only about punk music, great graphics layout+lots of cool pics too.
