HIDIOUS IN STRENGHT - Nun With A Gun - (Inner-X-Musick-USA-1983)

 Hidious In Strength was an early project of John Zewizz started around 1982. The instrumentation was often a combination of synthesizer experimentation, tapes, and "found" vocals from TV.
Although Zewizz was the only studio member, the project sometimes performed live as a duo.

Starting in 1979, the name of this label began as Triple-X (or sometimes XXX Organisation). Sometimes it was also called Innersleeve. The name Inner-X did not solidify as the main name for this label until around 1986.
The early cassette releases were numbered "XXX-###" and then sometime during 1984 there seems to have been a new cassette series begun numbered "XXX ###". The old series did not immediately stop; there were still "XXX-###" cassettes released in 1985. Please be aware of this and do not update any of the releases unless you have the release in hand. Also, if submitting a release please write the catalogue number as it is on the release.
Some of the cassettes do not feature catalogue numbers. In the tradition of Throbbing Gristle, Sleep Chamber attempted to record all of their live concerts and release them on cassette. Twelve of those that didn't make it onto releases in the XXX series were released in more basic packaging and were just given numbers (such as "#5"). These twelve tapes were also released together in the "Best Ov The Rest" boxset.

CONTROLLED BLEEDING-Shitslipper-(Inner-X-Musick-USA-1985)

Versatile and experimental noise / ambient band formed in Boston, 1978 (later re-locating to Massapequa, New York).

Though they began playing music in a style akin to instrumental art rock, a move into violent power electronics in the mid 1980s set Controlled Bleeding on a course that would take them through industrial, ambient, free jazz, noise, dub, progressive rock, sacred music, dark ambient, classical and musique concrète. To their detriment, the group was not concerned with generating or maintaining an audience, relying instead on spontaneous inspiration - often the cause of alienation amongst many of their listeners.

The band's only constant member is Paul Lemos, although early band members included Jack Salerno, Dave Southerland, Gary Pecorino and Tony Meola, a stable line-up was not attained until the early 1980s, with the addition of Joe Papa and Chris Moriarty.

Moriarty departed circa 1994, however he and Lemos continued to work together on side-projects such as Joined At The Head, Skin Chamber and Fat Hacker, whilst Lemos and Papa pursued further sonic experiments with Controlled Bleeding, as well as releasing music under their own names. After the deaths of both Chris Moriarty and Joe Papa in the late 00's, original member Tony Meola re-joined the band on drums. The current guitar-and-drums version of Controlled Bleeding plays instrumental rock songs influenced by Krautrock (notably Can) and progressive rock.

CULT OF THE WOMB-Cult Of The Womb-(Inner-X-Musick-USA-c50-1986)

A short-lived John Zewizz side project. Cult Ov The Womb (Initially called Cult Of The Womb) was a solo project of Sleep Chamber founder John Zewizz. Cult of the womb released two cassettes and a few tracks on various artists releases between in late 1985 and 1986 all on Zewizz's Label XXX (Inner-X-Musick). Cult Ov The Womb was non-musick. Both full-length cassette releases were collages of sound centred around TV news/shows clips about James Oliver Huberty and the San Ysidro McDonald's massacre, as well as VHS samples from porn movies and main-stream movies like "Apocalypse Now" and "Taxi Driver". Very little to no actual instruments were used.
