A rather strange vinyl and project of which I have very little info, this is probably a one-off project by a duo from Chiavari in Liguria region(Northern Italy), amongst the thanx I have noticed the name: Mauro Guazzotti aka MGZ.
The music evolves in cut-ups, an hot-line phone call, cheap drum machine and broken electric guitars, backward vocals, strange synth passages, some no-sense noises and more asphyxiating jingles with a low-fi quality recording. As overall the deep abstract sense of nothingness is there to stay.
Some stuff is definitely kind of funny if you understand the Italian language. Enjoy it. :f_a(r^a~w}a)y* click me
This is an amazing tape documenting the live show of this fantastic band at the Social Squatted Centre of Udine(Northern Italy) on the 21st January 1989.
Try to describe the music by this great band is not easy, with thousands of various influences they play a very personal form of Avantgarde Art Rock, their live shows were explosive mixing improvisations and performances leaving the public struck with an assault of lights, costumes, body movements, improvisations and more genial ideas, changing all the time.
I was lucky to see them twice back in the 90s ,they blew everybody away. Their various productions are quite different music-wise,as well.
Indexing this tape was very difficult because many tracks are mixed up, it took me a long time and for whoever will get it then please read the notes that I have added. The recording is pretty amazing, delivering to us their full energy as a great live act.
To complete this post I am adding some info taken from a Wikipedia page dedicated to them + an old video from their Youtube Channel.
A very big thanx to Marco for giving me permission to post this astonishing live document.
Born during the New Wave era but with a very original music idea, Gronge has been groundbreaking of many music genres that evolved in the following years.
The name of the band, that prefers to define itself as a musical collective, originates from the roman slang and it means a boxer apparently defeated but who still has the strength for his last punch.
Their music style is been defined by themselves as tecknopunkcabaret because they mix in their shows music and theatre. Among the first bands to include in their compositions some samples,
they have been an epiphany for important Italian bands like Zu.
They have been, together with Franti from Turin, the first to propose the DIY/self-production in Italy.
Gronge, that from 2014 change its name in Gronge X, are still active.
In 2015 They have published a CD titled Manuale Di Imporvvisazione Per Giovani Socialisti released on Danze Moderne label.
Between 2015 and 2016, the Again Records reprints all their discography of the 80s and the 90s in two double cd.
Forgarður Helvítis is an Icelandic metal/grindcore band primarily active 1995 to 2000 but technically still going.
This CD-R includes The Helviti Session (1999), Burn Churches demo(1995), Messiarse Demo(1993). It came out with a folded cover sleeve reporting some of the lyrics in English and info/contacts.
If you are into brutal grindcore and fast violent music then you`ll like this one.
"Produced once again by Tim Green (THE FUCKING CHAMPS) at his Louder Studios compound in 2016, “Ghost Fleet” sees THE MASS taking their already inimitable sound into deeper levels of cohesion, aggression and dark psychedelia. The album is both the most accessible, song-oriented affair the group has ever put together and it's most intense, thought-provoking offering to date. Two and a half years in the making, “Ghost Fleet” represents THE MASS in its most vital state: focused, recharged and determined to push music beyond defined boundaries."
This introduction is taken from their Bandcamp Pagewhere this amazing album is available as "name your price" download. It was released only as a digital release. A Discogs page about them is here.
To complete this post I am attaching a nice review by Conan Neutron from that same Bandcamp page. Enjoy it. ~f(a*r)a_w^a:y~
"An absolute pummeling of epic proportions. Expect top-notch musicianship and absolutely no mercy is given. The Mass's stunning return could possibly be one of their very best. Difficult music for difficult people, and to be clear: I mean that as a compliment. RIYL: Melvins, NoMeansNo, Breadwinner, Sweep The Leg Johnny, Naked City. Favorite track: Neuronic Channels Driven to Agitation."
The year was 1989 and someone out there released this nice sampler, many artists took part in it, I guess all the artists are from Treviso or, at the least from Veneto region in Northern Italy.
I have no idea how many copies were printed back then and who compiled it yet this is a great one.
If you are into experimental electronics, old school new wave and similar genres than you`ll like it.
Embers was a doom / black metal band with Crust edges from Oakland, California, USA.
This seems to be their very first production, a CD ep with 5 powerful tracks mixing some trash/death metal with some crust/doom punk.
Very well played and recorded this production has astonishing drawings/graphics reporting the lyrics too. The whole album is dedicated to a friend called Dominik. It seems that they are not active any longer, on their Bandcamp Page you`ll find 2 more albums, strange enough this one is not there. Enjoy it. ~f(a*r~a)w*a~y* click me
I reckon Theatre Of Hate needs no introduction, they are, in fact, quite famous. Here a little note was taken from Discogs.
"Theatre of Hate is currently active featuring original members Kirk Brandon, Stan Stammers and John Lennard, and have recently released a new album, Kinshi. They are touring in March 2017 with Stiff Little Fingers.Current touring line up is Brandon, Stammers, Lennard, Chris Bell and Adrian Portas."
This tape was probably recorded with a cheap tape machine yet the recording is pretty good and the cover sleeve reports the song-titles too.
Big thanx to Scott for passing me this precious pearl.
In this digital release, this legendary collective presents 4 soundtracks of 4 different performances held in Torino and around that city, their hometown, in the years 2005 and 2006.The last track is instead an unreleased track recorded in a studio.
I have already written about them when I posted their masterpiece album released in 1989 "Suidicio Modo D`Uso".
For who missed that post CCC CNC NCN is a radical collective from the anarchic/antagonist underground scene, combining old-school industrial sound with conceptual records and live shows about unpopular topics, such as suicide as an extreme choice of freedom, mass control, and oppression.
An FB page about them and their recent activities is here, on this page you can read also few reviews about those performances.Unfortunately, this page is in Italian language, only. Enjoy it. ~f*a^r~a)w^a~y( click me
A very eclectic compilation here.Lots of bands from various countries playing different kind of music: noise, weird rock, new wave, punk, powerviolence and experimental music.
The folded black and white xerox cover sleeve report song-titles, bands addresses and some info.
All the bands appear with a good recording, lots of good tracks. Enjoy it ~f*a)r~a:w*a(y~ click me
Very good recording of this punk gig at the social squatted center of Udine(Northern Italy)on the 7th of October 1988.
Afflict from Holland, Chaos UK from England and Naftia from Greece share the small stage of this cool squat to blast their furious HC Punk with political messages.
Inside the cover sleeve few notes about Naftia and their songs, bands addresses and info about the squat. A nice old tape... Enjoy it. ~f*a~r^aw(a)y* click me
Another tape from the collection of Mahler Maze, digitalized by him and kindly donated to this blog. So big thanx Mahler for this rare recording.
Here a note from him: "Legendary YOUTH OF TODAY live tape here, from when they supported GBH in Albany in May 1986. It's legendary because of the way they keep shitting on GBH & calling them names etc (GBH, great big haircuts, fucking faggots, laughing at their drunk fans etc). All pretty funny stuff. The set itself is great & played with a lot of anger & passion. 12 tracks in 32 minutes. Ripped & mastered from a 30-year-old cassette tape."
To complete this post I am adding 3 minutes video of this concert.
Live split tape with 2 good bands both gigs recorded at the social squatted center of Udine(Northern Italy) in 1989.Both recordings are very good but there is very little info about the bands.
God was band from The Netherlands,at the time of this gig they had already released 2 lps, they play a nice form of pysch rock mixed with some grunge influences, post rock with powerful guitar riffs.
Ratos De Porao was an hardcore/punk band from São Paulo, Brazil, formed in 1981.They are definetely very well known now.
Ratos de Porão means "Basement Rats" in Portuguese.
A nice split tape created by the squatters of this social center with the original recordings of those great gigs.
Amazing 60 minutes cassette by this french duo(?)playing a theatrical form of goth/electro opera music, excellent recordings quality and few info on the colver sleeve.
This is definetely for people into dark melodies for cloudy paths towards circles of rising stars and decaying satellites.
This is a very well crafted long compilation with a selection of great Italian bands active during the 90s.The choice of the songs is pretty good and so are all the recordings.
I do not know who compiled it as the cover sleeve doesn`t report any address and I am not sure if it was coming with a booklet if so I don`t have it.
All I know is that whoever compiled this astonishing sampler was following very near the lively Italian underground HC punk scene of the 90s.
If you like furious, powerful, fast and angry HC Punk then you `ll not be disappointed with this c90 cassette.
Amazing cd compilation created and released in 1000 copies by Active Slaugther band. It comes with a 16 page, full-colour booklet reporting actions and info about different groups fighting for animal rights:A.L.F.,Hunt Sabouters association,Speak,Vegan Prisoners Supporter Group and Arkangel magazine, very informative and well done.
As or the music we find a good selction of punk bands. Here an interesting note by Active Slaugther introducing this cool cd.
This tape is not from my collection and the digital conversion is not mine.I have found this on FB and I asked permission to Mahler Maze who had this tape and converted into digital few days ago. So big thanx to him for donating to my blog this preciuos pearl,I am a big fan of this band and I am very happy to share this here. The poster is from the very same tour...yet another date. Here I gonna c+p the info that Mahler wrote: "Just finished restoring & mastering this absolutely KILLER live tape
by LUDICHRIST when they supported the Crumbsuckers in March 1986. The
source tape was 1st generation (From the bassists brother) & this is
a different gig than the one that's on the F.O.A.D. reissue &
different than the bootleg that's on some blogs out there. 17 tracks of
raging ultra fast metallic HC in 35 minutes" To complete this post I am gonna attach here a great video-gig showing Ludichrist during those old days. They were just amazing. Enjoy it. ~f(a*r~a^w~a*y~ click me
An exquisite cassette of electronic jingles and weird experiments by this english musician. It doesn`t seems easy to find info on the net about him or/and his works.
It will make happy all the lovers of obscure musical creations crossing the borders of different scenes.
The recording is very good and there are few info on the cover sleeve.
Amazing double cd compilation + a well done fanzine of 68 pages(A4 b/w) with info about the bands and a long article about the history of the anarcopunk scene in France.
This article is translated into english and spanish and you can read it here, on the same webpage more info about this compilation and related projects.
The 2 cds of this long sampler offer us a wide view of the big anarcopunk scene in France spanning two decades(1984-2006)!The graphix layout is very nice providing lots of info, only in french language but you`ll find some translations on that page.
A precious and very useful document digging into the history of counter-culture and punk music with an attitude.
