HERB MULLIN-Arthole-(Demonosound-Finland-c30-1994)

Herb Mullin is another name for the noise artist Lasse Marhaug: (b. 1974) has since the early 1990s been one of the most active artists in the Norwegian noise/experimental music scene. As a performer and composer he has contributed to well over 300 CD, vinyl and cassette releases over the years, as well as extensive touring and performing live on all continents of the world. In addition to his solo work, Marhaug has collaborated with several artists in the fields of noise, experimental, improv, jazz, rock and extreme metal, as well as working with music and sound for theatre, dance, installations, film and video. In the mid-90s Marhaug started TWR Tapes (still going) and Jazzassin Records (ended 2001). In the 2000s he started the record labels Pica Disk and Prisma Records. In 2011 he started his own print publishing called Marhaug Forlag. He has also been active as an organizer, promoter and producer. Marhaug was born in the northern regions above the arctic circle of Norway, but currently lives in Oslo.(from his own webpage.
I already posted another tape by him you`ll find it here.
This tape came out with a small booklet,it is included here.

v.a.-TITS-(Joukkomurha Prods-Finland-c90-199?)

This tape is a documentation of a Mail Art project.Artists included:Etat Des Stocks,Okaniwa Fuhimiro,Welcome,Sockeye,Hex Minora,DAs Kombinat,Danielle Black,M.Nomized,J.Upton,Target Shoppers VS Tea Kulture,Boy in Love,Sportcreme,Sound Inhaler.
I posted already few productions by this Finnish label,I did find now some info on a discogs page and I guess this was written by Jupe Luoma, the founder and headmaster of this label and mail art project:
"From the west coast of Finland - the city of Vaasa, to be more precise - rose a small but relentless and heavily networking cassette-only label originally known as Joukkomurha [Engl. Mass Murder or Massacre] Products or Tapes. The title of the label was later watered down to a more neutral-sounding (maybe even a wee bit more) JM-Tapes. The label was originally started just for fun, as a continuation to the creative stream of small press activity. The label was active producing the plethora of cassette-only albums (or alblums, as John Bartles would put it!) and compilations of folk / punk / electronic / aggressive / art music(k) and odd bits of sound all the way from Ohio to Okinawa. The label was in action between 1989 and 1998. In total, there were more than 70 releases during that time of angst, madness and creativity. The label was run by J Luoma, who was acknowledged on the "thanks" list of Reverend Bizarre's debut LP as the "witch of the west"!"

Sublabel JM-Tapes

INSTITUTE OF SONIC PONDERANCE-Seven Pieces For Finland-(JM tapes-Finland-1997)

This American project is formed by Roberto Cozzolino and Richard Holland and active in Chicago in the mid-90s. There is more info inside the cover-sleeve. They play a kind of concrete-classical music with piano, percussion, violin, guitar and samples.
The Finnish tape label JM Tapes was managed by Jupe Luoma and it is a short name for Joukkomurha-Productions, tape label that I already covered in this blog a couple of times.
Yes, this tape appears to be the release number 60 of this small yet very active label.
Great :>)
ps-this tape is unindexed

STEVE ANDREWS-From Venus With Love-(Joukkomurha Productions-Finland-1996-c60)

Steve Andrews is a singer-songwriter form Cardiff in South Wales, who was also known as The Legendary Steve Andrews and The Legend. He had his songs released on various underground cassette albums, as well as on Mask, a vinyl EP on Pink Lemon, and a vinyl LP entitled Sound of One on Very Good Records - both from Germany. His song Jungle Love was included on the vinyl Various Artists compilation Meltdown The Album LP on Chariot Records in 1990. He was a guest on many local radio shows and also performed at Glastonbury Festival amongst the many gigs he played at the time.(from discogs)
For some stuff Steve Andrews reminds me Lord Litter although with less genius aura!
Joukkomurha-Productions was a small label active in the 90s and managed by Jupe Luoma in Finland.
A very good tape-work for deviated new age hippies on wrong pathways to the inner lights...

FUTILE EXSISTENCE-Mental As Nothing-(c30-1995-Scattered Productions-Finland)

I do not know much about this project, they were Finnish and made 2 split tapes, the first with Grunt and the second with Supposed To Be.
Their music is a violent form of electro industrial noise flirting with the grindcore.
Scattered Productions was a small tape label active in the mid 90s,here the discogs page where you`ll find  some of their other releases.

Sivullinen n17 and n19 (fanzine,Finland -1995/1996)

I wrote about  Sivullinen International Newsletter.
Those ones instead are 2 issues of the fanzine with the same name, published by Jouni Waarakangas in Helsinki(Finland)!!!
Jouni was collecting artworks from different artists around the world and printing this beautiful zine in a print-run of 1000 copies.
Those 2 numbers are packed with black and white art-works, graphics, drawings, strange poems, weird comics, poetries and more random thoughts.
This is a classic from the underground press of the 90s and if you are into zines then you should not miss those ones.
Very good and funny, those zines are really priceless.

M.NOMIZED-Voyage-(Raippa Records-Finland-c60-1995)

Here a tape by M. Nomized.
A very talented and prolific multi-media artist active in the underground cassette label scene since the end of the 70s.
I  wrote already about him and all his activities when I posted 2 tapes by The Golozos, here if you want to check that post and read more about him,yes there is a lot to read...
Raippa Records was a small tape label from Finland active in the 90s and I cannot find any more info about it,I guess it is not active any longer.
A good tape of "minimal electro-pop"(??) experiments!

SIVULLINEN International Newsletter (graphix,info,news,underground press)

Sivullinen was a newsletter edited by Jouni Waarakangas in Helsinki(Finland)!!!
Jouni was printing in it everything  that was coming out from the underground  world.
This newsletter had no borders!!!
So we could find in it news about zines, comincs, tape labels, mail art, anarchist newspapers, poetries, short stories, experimental music, adverts for future compilation tapes, flyers of bands and their productions, mail art projects and whatever was related to  all those subjects .
The graphix layout  was messy and at the same time funny  on  2 A6 size folded pages .
It was printed 4 times at year in a printrun of 1000 copies and it was free although a donation in stamps would have been always very appreciated.Jouni was into trading zines and cassette productions!!

I guess everybody involved into mail networking during  the 90s (mail art, zines exchange, independent cassette labels etc) has received 1 or more issues of this  nice newsletter.
Jouni in fact was inviting everybody to pass it  on after using it and I am sure lots of people was actually doing so.
I did scan here 4 issues that I`ve found into my messy archive of zines, books, flyers, posters and more random papers that I suppose to sort out ;*(
A must for the lovers of  the underground press.
