Number 10 of this legendary fanzine that started in 1989! In this issue "Punk Schocker competition time", a long interview to Angelic Upstarts, a retro article about The Germs, War against terrorism, and a long section with tons of music reviews.

32 pages, A5 size, full of good ideas and info and a very punk graphic layout.

Let`s see what Andy tell us in the editorial of this issue.

Enjoy it.

DREAD 101/SOCIAL INSECURITY-Split Tape-Insane Society Recs-Czech Rep-2002)

Great split tape by these political punk bands, Dread 101 from the Czech Republic and Social Insecurity from Scotland. It was printed on tape and on vinyl in 2002 by the Czech labels  Insane Society Recs and Spearhead Recs operated by the members of Dread 101.
The tape came out with lyrics in Czech and English languages, some pics + addresses.
Expect furious crust/HC punk with good recordings and amazing graphic works.
Enjoy it.

CITIES IN DESOLATION-Demo,Anavyssos Session Pt.1-04/02-(1000+1 TiLt Recordings-Greece-2002)

Another cd and another project by my friend Jason, owner of the label 1000+1 Tilt Recordings a label covered in this blog many times and also prolific musician involved in many acts.
This project started as a trio and after became a duo.
Experimental music made with synth, cello, bass guitar, filtered voices and various machines. It was recorded during spring 2002 in a basement, my copy has two extra tracks, one recorded live in Mostar (Bosnia) and another one from their gig in Ljubliana (Slovenia).
The music evolves in areas such as ambient, drone, ethereal dub experiments and quiet noise.
This label is still alive and kicking and you can check its webpage here while a Soundcloud page is here.
A very big thanx to Jason for sending me this little jewel more than 10 years ago, for the extra tracks on my copy and all the useful info about it.
Enjoy it.

LUCKY FOR FUN-...Vs Skorpio!-(Self Released-Italy-2003)

Lucky For Fun was a full-SKA band including keyboards, trumpet and Sax.
Another band in which Mario Pota was singing, I spoke about him when I posted the music by Rudy e Crudy and Bandiera dell`Odio.
I have asked him to write a brief note about this band.
About the cd, it was just about to be released when Mario left the band and after only 2 gigs the band  broke up, therefore some of them made+distributed just a  few copies with another cover and another title "Pulsar Chi E`?" back in 2003 while Mario is spreading it around nowadays, only as a digital release.
If you are into SKA you should really listen to this one, it is, in fact, a very good cd of this music genre.
A big thanx to Mario for passing me this astonishing pearl and for the precious info in his little note.
Enjoy it.

"Lucky For Fun was born on the end of 1997 in Naples(Southern Italy). At the time the SKA in Naples was a genre almost forgotten and we got involved in this adventure with a little conscience about it.

We shared the practise room, home, small vans, dreams and stages until 2002.

Our cultural background was the Neapolitan squatting scene, a small scene where many of us were, somehow, involved.

The band was part of a collective managing, with a no profit attitude, the practise room of the Laboratorio Okkupato SKA of Naples, this Collective self-released various compilations and organized many free gigs in many social squatted centres in Campania.

Eventaully It managed to set up a recording studio for all bands active within it, at the time.

We played around Italy both in commercial places than in squats (the first places were the economic boost to support the second places) sharing the stage, among the others, with Skatalites, Banda Bassotti, Statuto...

We recorded a 5 tracks promo back in 1999 and we changed the line up quite often.

In the meantime something broke up within us but telling you about this it wouldn`t be very interesting...many bands born, many bands die.
Nothing extraordinary, after all.

This is not the story of the band but the one of an album (recorded between the spring and the summer of 2002)that, by me, it should have had a different destiny.

I like to think that there are people who like to have it (even if only as the digital format).

And to be able to discover it for the first time or rediscover it after many years far from all the troubles that came with its release.

It includes the original graphic work."

SOLANACEAE TAU-Voices From The Ground Behind-(Self Released-Germany-2002)

Solanaceae Tau was founded in the early 80ties and  made a lot of  releases in the tape industrial and gothic scene in Germany, Holland, France, Italy, UK and after the departure of their female vocalist they etablished (after a break) in a  new personal structure with the same project`s name in 1998. The musical base is inspirated to the dark wave music from the eighties:psychedelic and EBM  with some of the neo folk / gothic music of today mixed with collages and tapeworks.
The project members are Jason Fretz (guitar) Nicci Harrington (vocals ) and Axaxaxs ( synkussion, keyboards, tapes ).They compose and produce their music in their own small studio with reel tape machines, computers  and virtual and real instruments.(info taken from Soundclick).

I have already posted quite few of their previous tape-works.
This cd-r is mainly darkwave yet it has his own structure and style.A bit different from the tapes already on this blog yet very good.
Enjoy it.

CRACK:WE ARE ROCK-Silent Fantasy-(Tigerbeats6-USA-2002)

From the murky border between the urban jungle and the smoldering forests of Hades comes Crack: We Are Rock. Spawned as a cough syrup-fueled dream somewhere in the Midwest ca. 1995, founder King Riff brought his vision to San Francisco and performed under the Crack:WAR banner with a revolving cast of savants and sociopaths. Eventually teaming up with black metal poseur Obscuratron, the line-up solidified with the addition of L'Erin and Le Kim, sirens with a poetic vision who had fallen off the back of a caravan in a Satanic children's circus. Crack:WAR immersed themselves in their collective obsessions (spectre-infested woods, fiendish horsemen, and New Age warfare) and now unleash a full-length fever dream-journey into a psychedelic future where rainbow-coated simians control the machines and bloodied unicorns sip wine with shrouded reptiles(from LastFM)
Tigerbeat6 is a San Francisco and Berlin based independent and (mostly) electronic record label run by Kid606 (Miguel De Pedro).[1] The label is run as a DIY operation and releases a variety of electronic music styles, including noisecore, intelligent dance music, bedroom pop, folktronica, and electronica-driven hip hop.[2] The name reflects De Pedro's obsession with cats, which also comes to light in the catalogue numbers, all of which start with MEOW. It is also a loose reference to the top-selling teen magazine Tiger Beat. The label's first release was in 2000; it has over two hundred releases in total.[3] A 2001 compilation of the label's output was described as "stripping intelligent dance music of its intelligence[,] often resorting to outright silliness, and sometimes parody."[4] The AV Club described the same compilation as satirizing glitch through "gestures borrowed from punk, indie-rock, and hip-hop."[5]
Tigerbeat6 has four sublabels: Nibbana, Shockout, Tigerbass & Violent Turd.(from wikipedia)

ZINE WORLD-A Reader`s Guide To The Underground Press n17-(Self Released-Fanzine-USA-2002)

Zine World: A Reader's Guide to the Underground Press was an independent publication which covers independent and underground media. It was the largest review zine being published in the United States throughout the late 2000s. It reviewed mostly zines, but also books, comics, newsletters, videos and spoken word recordings. The material it covered was generally available directly from the publishers, and each review included ordering information and other specifics (such as whether or not the item is free to prisoners, or the publisher's trade policy). Its news section covered free speech issues, and other topics of interest to the independent publishing community. It also included a word of mouth section, with reports on distros and stores, zine libraries, other review zines, and publishing resources. It published columns by Karl Wenclas, Jeff Somers, Grant Schreiber, Christoph Meyer, Gianni Simone, and other prominent underground writers. It featured illustrations by Alan Lastufka, Sue Clancy, Violet Jones, Cole Johnson, Mike Twohig, and a wide variety of other indie artists.
The zine was launched as Zine World in 1996 by Doug Holland as a more opinionated alternative to Factsheet Five, but has continued publishing since its larger competitor's disappearance in 1998. In 1999, it changed its name to A Reader's Guide to the Underground Press, and began using both names in 2003. It was once widely decried (in its own letters section, on the Usenet group alt.zines, and elsewhere) for running gratuitously negative reviews (particularly from departed contributor Joe Gallo), but is now less controversial. It now publishes roughly three times a year. After Holland stepped down in 2000, Jerianne Thompson became editor/publisher and supervised the all-volunteer staff. The final issue, #31, was published in 2012.
